It was one in, one out at The Northern Echo Arena yesterday with caretaker manager Craig Liddle altering his squad with two loan deals.

He brought in young attacking midfielder Adam Reach on loan from Middlesbrough while centre-back Adam Quinn has joined Alfreton Town on loan for a month.

Quinn had just returned to Quakers following a three-month loan with Barrow and was an unused substitute for Darlington's win at Ebbsfleet United last weekend.

But he has now teamed up with former Quakers striker Chris Senior at Alfreton and may face his former Barrow team-mates next week when his new side travel to Cumbria.

Chester-le-Street-born Reach goes straight into the Darlington squad for tomorrow's game at home to Tamworth.

The 18-year-old left-sided player can be used in any position along the front line and has joined for an initial month.

An England Under-19 international, he scored on his debut for the Teessiders against Doncaster Rovers in May before signing his first senior contract in the summer.

Liddle said: "It's a great opportunity for Adam to come in and get some matches under his belt in a different environment.

"He's someone I've been aware of for three or four years now. He's played plenty of reserve team football I think Boro want to see him get some competitive games.

"He'll give me more options up front as well so the deal works perfectly for all parties and we'll hopefully see the best of Adam in the Conference."

Reach's arrival reduces the likelihood of Ryan Bowman making a swift return to action after recovering from a hamstring problem.

The forward has returned to training ahead of schedule, but Liam Hatch missed yesterday's session due to illness.

Liddle said: "Ryan trained this morning and I've got a decision to make whether to involve him.

"His injury wasn't as bad as first feared, it was more of a strain than a tear, but what I have to be wary of is if we throw him back and breaks down he could be out for six weeks. We've already got Liam on nine bookings, that's one game away from a two-game ban, so we could be left with no fit strikers, which means I've got manage it carefully.

"We have only got Liam as the main striker, and he's been missing today through illness. He phoned in today with flu, so hopefully that's just a 24-hour bug and he'll be available Saturday.

"But other than that we clean bill of health."
