A CHARITY night held to raise funds for heart surgeons who saved a baby's life has raised more than £6,000.

Ava's Precious Heart Charity Night, held in September, in Hurworth Village Hall, was arranged by Denise Wilson, mother of Ava, who was told she would need heart surgery in her first six months.

Ava, who also has Down's syndrome, was born with one heart valve instead of two and only two chambers within the heart, rather than four. She went on to have heart reconstruction surgery at The Freeman Hospital, Newcastle, which was a success.

Ms Wilson said: "We were blown away by people's generosity. It was a night we will never forget.

"So many people have helped to make a difference, by donating fantastic prizes, as well as money and their time. We raised an amazing £6,236.29, and thismoney is on its way to Children's Heart Unit Fund at The Freeman Hospital."
