POLICE are appealing for witnesses after two men tried to snatch a woman's bag as she waited for a bus on a busy road.
The woman was waiting for the bus to take her home from work at about 5pm on Monday, October 31, when the two men, who had been drinking, began to push and grab at her bag.
Police are convinced that someone must have seen the incident, which happened in Haughton Road, Darlington, between the railway bridge and Eastmount Road.
PC Helen Hudson said: "This is a very busy stretch of road where traffic is often stationary for periods of time during rush hour.
"The college is just over the bridge and many people will have been going to the gym after work.
"A lthough the woman was unhurt, she was left shaken by the incident."
Themen, who were aged between 23 and 25, were drinking Stella Artois lager from a can at the time of the attempted bag snatch.
The first was about 5ft 10in and was wearing a blue shirt with dark tracksuit bottoms and white trainers. He had a black stocky dog with him that was about the size of a Staffordshire bull terrier.
The second was about 5ft 8in, of medium build, with short light brown hair. He was wearing a white tracksuit top and dark bottoms.
After trying for some time to snatch the bag, the twomen left towards the direction of the town centre. Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Hudson on 0345-60-60365.
