SEVEN cars had their windscreen wipers ripped off in what could be a drunken rampage.
The wipers were taken from cars parked in the West End of Darlington overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday (Oct 25 and 26).
Police received seven reports from car owners in the area that their windscreen wipers had been stolen, although the items were later recovered as part of the investigation.
They included three in Nunnery Lane, two in Hummersknott Avenue, and one each in Clare Avenue and Leith Road. Another car in Coniscliffe Mews was broken into and property stolen although it is not believed to be connected.
Inspector Kevin McCarthy said police believed the wipers may have been taken by somebody returning home after a night out.
Police are inspecting CCTV evidence and are appealing for any witnesses to contact them on 0345-60-60-365.
