YOUNG sporty people and their families and friends are being invited to an event to celebrate improvements at a games area.
The event will take place at the multi-use games area in North Park, Darlington, following the installation of new floodlights.
The floodlights were installed after 12 youngsters in the area aged from 13 to 15 applied to the Dosh fund - which enables youngsters to bid for money for projects, activities and facilities in their area - asking for £15,000 towards the project.
Councillor Cyndi Hughes, cabinet member for children and young people said: "This sporting event is a wonderful way to celebrate the hard work, dedication and commitment of people who, in their own time, have worked tirelessly together to submit the funding application.
"Without the floodlights, activities at the multi-use games area have to stop when the nights draw in. Now, with the lighting in place, activities can continue into the evening."
There will be football, basketball, cricket and dodge ball as well as craft activities at the free event, on Saturday, from 2pm to midnight.
