NEIGHBOURS have objected to two more bungalows being built in a village cul-de-sac.

A planning application for the two properties, in The Wayside, Hurworth, will be discussed by Darlington Borough Council's planning committee on Wednesday.

There have been seven objections to the plans - six from people living nearby and one from a former councillor - but planning officers have recommended that the plans be approved.

Bill Henderson's application is to build two detached four-bedroomed bungalows and garages in the grounds of another bungalow.

Objections have been made on various grounds, including the effect of the bungalows on residential and visual amenity, highway safety and the impact on trees.

One neighbour said: "I have a pleasant aspect of a Twenties bungalow with a good separation between our properties. This development would destroy that rural aspect and would overlook my property."

Several of the people objecting said the properties would be out of place in the cul-de-sac. They also said it would increase traffic and cause problems for parking, because there would be more than 40 homes in a narrow street.

One objector said: "The plans for the homes appear to have a large footprint for a small area, quite in contrast to other homes on the street.

"The character of TheWayside is enhanced by large rear gardens and compact front gardens."

Hurworth Parish Council has also raised objections, which will be reported to the committee.

No other objections have been raised.

The council's planning department has recommended the plans be approved. The report states that the development would not impact on other homes because it was far enough away from them.

The report also states that the size of the plot is big enough for the homes and gardens.

The report added: "The design and layout of the development accords with the relevant policies in the development plan. The development respects the amenity and general character of the area."

Wednesday's meeting takes place in the town hall, at 1.30pm. It is open to the public.
