TWO North-East blood donors have been recognised for their dedication after giving 200 units of blood between them.
David Shield and Andrew Horn were both presented with a crystal decanter from the National Blood Service for each making 100 blood donations.
The pair, both from the Darlington area, were recognised at a ceremony at Barcel Majestic Hotel in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.
The awards were presented by Councillor Derek Hardcastle, whose son Joshua needed several transfusions until he was two-years-old as he needed corrective heart surgery.
He is now a fit and healthy 23 year old, who is living and working in France. Coun Hardcastle has donated over 75 units of blood.
Darren Bowen, lead donor relations manager for the National Blood Service, said: "All our donors are special, but it is a pleasure to thank our dedicated donors in this way.
"They continue to make time to donate come rain or shine and really are the lifeblood of our service.
"We are approaching the time of year when blood stocks tend to dip so it is vital that people come to donate regularly to make sure that we can meet hospital demands."
Anyone aged over 17, weighing more than 50kg and in general good health can become a blood donor. For details of sessions in your area, call 0300-123-23-23 or visit blood.co.uk.
