POLICE have warned people to be on their guard after a skimming device was found at a cash machine.

On Tuesday evening, police recovered the device - which is used to copy card details - from the Lloyds cash machine at the Morrisons store, in North Road, Darlington.

A member of the public had spotted the device and alerted store staff.

PC Tony Barker, who is investigating the matter, said: "In the light of this discovery, I would urge people in the town to be extra vigilant when using ATMs and report anything suspicious to police.

"I would advise anyone who used the machine that day or beforehand to contact their bank. If anyone has witnessed someone acting suspiciously in the vicinity of this machine prior to it being discovered on Tuesday, we would like to hear from them."

Anyone with information can contact PC Barker at Darlington police on 0345-60-60365 or the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555-111
