Darlington manager Mark Cooper has asked the club’s supporters to be patient as he continues to work on bringing in new players to The Northern Echo Arena.

It is three weeks since he added midfielder Kris Taylor and striker James Walshaw to his squad, but they remain Quakers’ only signings this summer.

However, Cooper is keen to stress that he and assistant manager Richard Dryden have spent a considerable amount of time attempting to conclude deals.

Fleetwood Town and York City are two clubs that have beaten Cooper to some of his transfer targets, but the manager is hopeful of making a breakthrough soon.

“It’s actually been a really busy time, for both Richard and myself,” he said.

“I think we’ve made and took more phone calls in the last three weeks than in the last three years!

“I’m really pleased with the two players we’ve already signed. Kris Taylor has signed a one-year contract and is moving to the area with his girlfriend and little baby, and that’s the kind of player we want.

“I’d just ask our fans to be patient. They can be assured a lot of work is going on behind the scenes.

“We’re not doing anything on the cheap. We’re being very competitive at our own level, to a certain point, but we’ll only go so far as we don’t want to take any stupid risks.

“We’ve got several irons in the fire right now and we’d hope to make some breakthroughs in the next week or so.”
