RESIDENTS of Darlington are being invited to a ceremony to honour the Armed Forces.

A service will be held in the Market Place on Monday, ahead of national Armed Forces Day on June 25.

A raising-the-flag ceremony will thank those serving now, and those who have served in the past, for their hard work and dedication.

A procession of military associations will start at the town hall at 10.10am, followed by the flag ceremony at 10.30am.

Mayor Lee Vasey has invited all military associations and serving military, as well as local schools, to join her and fellow councillors to mark the occasion. Anyone who would like to watch the ceremony is advised to be in the Market Place for 10am.

Those who have served in the Armed Forces and would like to join the procession should meet at the town hall forecourt at 9.45am.

Councillor Vasey said: "We owe all our armed personnel a debt of gratitude for their dedication and sacrifice over the years. This simple flagraising ceremony will give the people of Darlington the chance to say thank you to the brave men and women of our armed forces and I hopemany people will turn out to show their support."
