A CHARITY golf tournament is being held to raise money in memory of a woman who died of cancer.
The Stableford golf competition at Darlington Golf Club is being held in memory of 42-year-old Michelle Parker - Shelly to her friends - who died in December after battling two brain tumours.
During her final weeks, the Darlington mother made partner Darren Watson promise to give something back to The James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, for the care she received.
The first tumour was discovered after she suffered a seizure, and Ms Parker underwent surgery to remove it.
She then underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy and planned to get her life back to normal.
But in October last year, the cancer returned and its position made surgery too dangerous.
Ms Parker, who had a 22year-old son, Daniel, died in December and nearly 400 people attended her funeral.
Mr Watson has set up The Michelle Parker Charity to raise money to buy equipment for the neurosurgical theatre at the hospital.
The competition takes place on Friday, August 5, from 10.30am and there will be prizes for the nearest to the pin on the third hole, the longest drive on the 18th hole and the beat the pro challenge. Players will receive bacon buns and coffee on arrival.
Tickets, priced £30 per person, are still available from Mr Watson on 07973-462878.
