AN adoption service has improved since its last report and is now rated as good.
Darlington Borough Council's Adoption Service improved on its satisfactory rating when it underwent an Ofsted inspection last month.
The Ofsted report noted that the service operates an effective adoption panel.
It also said it offers a positive approach to equality and diversity, and works with prospective adopters approved from a wide range of backgrounds.
The report goes on to say that the adoption service has a robust safeguarding policy and procedure, and ensures strong links with child and adolescent mental health services.
It also commented on the positive approach to education set in place by foster carers and continued by adopters.
Cyndi Hughes, the council's cabinet member for children and young people, said: "The adoption service works tirelessly to ensure that children and prospective adopters are given the right guidance, support and help that they need when working through the adoption process.
"This ensures the most beneficial outcome - a stable and loving home enjoyed by the child and their adoptive parents.
"The Ofsted report reinforces the incredibly valuable work of the team.
"I am delighted the rating has improved from satisfactory to good."
