THE mayor of Darlington has paid a visit to a charity which provides a vital lifeline to visually impaired people in the borough.
Last night, mayor Coun Lee Vasey visited the offices and studios of the Darlington and District Talking Newspaper at the Northern Echo buildings in Priestgate.
The Talking Newspaper is one of Coun Vasey's nominated charities during her mayoral year.
Coun Vasey said: "This is like a lifeline to people who sometimes can be isolated, yet they get to hear the news.
"I went to their AGM last year as deputy mayor and was very impressed with everything they did."
Coun Vasey recorded an interview for the Talking Newspaper where she spoke about her recent activities since she was sworn in and her hopes for the forthcoming year.
She also described the mayoral regalia she was wearing.
Joint chairman of the Talking Newspaper Margaret Harrison said: "We're absolutely delighted that the mayor agreed to support us."
