A SCHOOL football team regularly cast as unlucky losers have finally gone one better.
Mowden Junior School won the Darlington schools football tournament last week for the first time.
The school's victory came after a number of runner-up spots during recent years - the most recent of which came two years ago after a penalty shoot-out.
They won the tournament last week at Longfield School - the first event on the new third-generation pitch - defeating St Te resa's 1-0 in the final. The winning goal came from Daniel Godfrey.
He was joined in the team by James Thorpe, Liam Woodward, Matthew McGuire, Luke Sinclair, Callum Rankin, Jamie O'Brien and Ellis Jackson.
Deputy headteacher Alistair Johnson said: "We were delighted for them.
Having come runner ups so many times it has become something of a heartbreak.
"It was great to see them finally win something."
