A CHARITY support group will hold a members' art display during a cake break event.

The Darlington and District Branch of the MS Society has a number of artists among its ranks.

Tomorrow, they will display their work at Elm Ridge Methodist Church hall, in Carmel Road South, Darlington.

A spokesman for the group said: "Art is a way to express yourself and it can bring much pleasure and relaxation to those who paint and draw.

"Budding artists find this quiet, peaceful activity very rewarding and therapeutic."

The artists include David Brown and Helen Nicholls, who have both lost the use of their right hands because of multiple sclerosis and have had to learn how to draw and paint with their left hands.

Over years of practice and determination, Mr Brown writes, draws and paints with great accuracy and has a portfolio of artwork.

Ms Nicholls has gradually lost the use of her right hand over the past four years and has only recently begun to use her left hand to draw and paint.

She has also designed a number of posters which are on display in the town centre to promote MS Awareness Week this week.

The cake break and art display takes place at the church hall tomorrow, from 1pm to 2.30pm.
