A WOMAN has raised £1,400 for charity in memory of her mother by taking part in a gruelling trek.
Jenny Carr, from Middleton St George, walked 60km along the Great Wall of China to raise the money for Breast Cancer Campaign.
She did the walk in memory of Carys Carr who died of the cancer three and a half years ago.
Carys, a mother of two, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1995 at the age of 43, and was treated for the disease three times over the next 10 years.
During a trip back to the UK in 2006 Carys was taken ill for the final time. Too ill to return to her home in Canada she lived with Jenny for almost a year as she fought the illness.
Carys Carr died on August 30 2007, aged 53, leaving behind Jenny's father Paul, Jenny and her brother Michael.
Jenny is keen to raise even more money for the charity now she has returned from her trip.
She said: "It was a real challenge, tough in places but really fun at the same time. I would do it again in a heart beat.
"Friends and family have been so supportive of my efforts and I can't thank everyone enough for helping me to raise so much money.
"I specifically chose Breast Cancer Campaign because its research aims to improve the way cancer is treated. Having cared for my mother I have seen how horrific the treatment can be for the person going through it."
Ms Carr works for property group Marchday plc at its Lingfield Point property, Darlington, and funded the trip herself.
