LAST year's poppy appeal in Darlington raised £49,000.
The appeal was launched by Mayor Bryan Thistlethwaite when he welcomed two wheelchair users to the town for a marathon wheelchair push.
Pat Stoddart, poppy appeal co-ordinator in Darlington, said: "I'd like to thank all the volunteers for their help and the generosity of the public for their contributions."
The Darlington branch of the Royal British Legion meets on the fourth Wednesday of every month, except December, at 8pm in Cleveland Bridge Social Club, in Neasham Road.
