A COMMUNITY came together over face painting, giant Jenga and Scalextric at the weekend.

More than 200 people turned out for the event at Elim Pentecostal Church in Bowman Street, in Darlington, on Saturday.

As well as games, there were cookery demonstrations and a free raffle.

There was also a cake stall in aid of a charity called Lifelink, which helps good causes in the UK and abroad.

The free event, called One, was the first in a series of community events the church plans to organise.

Neil Jackson, volunteer children's worker for the church, said: "Everyone had an excellent day. The important thing was to have a day where we just gave to the community."

The church is also organising a holiday club for children and young people over the summer break.
