A SQUAD of young girls represented Darlington after winning the town's five-a-side football tournament.
The year seven girls, from Hummersknott School, won the Darlington trophy then went on to finish second in the County Durham equivalent.
Their achievement is all the more impressive considering the Darlington tournament was the first time they had played together.
At the Durham County Schools' Championship, held in Stanley, the girls finished runners-up, narrowly missing out on the chance to progress to the North-East finals.
Team captain Connie Smith was the top scorer.
Hayley Millar, PE teacher at the school, said: "We are delighted with the girl's achievement.
"This is the highest position that any girls' football team from the school has finished in this competition.
"We have really high hopes for the future with this team."
The squad was Connie Smith, Anna Jordinson, Beth Lamont, Alice Denham, Jade Hutchinson, Laura Mutton and Olivia Thompson.
