DANCERS have been getting into the swing of things as rehearsals for an amateur society's latest show got under way yesterday.
Darlington Operatics Society have chosen the cast of Broadway classic 42nd Street following a lengthy audition process at the weekend.
Selena Blain heads the cast as the starry-eyed young actress Peggy Sawyer, who auditions for a Broadway musical, Pretty Lady. She cannot seem to stay in the good graces of the show's ageing leading lady Dorothy Brock, played by Heidi Richardson, but catches the eye of famous director Julian Marsh, played by Julian Cound.
Ms Brock breaks her ankle and Peggy takes on the role.
In 36 hours, Peggy has to learn all the songs, dialogue and dance routines.
The cast includes Nicholas Holmes as Billy Lawlor, the juvenile lead in Pretty Lady, which is the show within the show. Debbie Barrigan, Joanne Mason, Beth Stobbart and Claire Bullock play the chorus girls, while Hayley Walker and Stefan Curtis play the writers and main characters in Pretty Lady.
The show runs from April 6 to 16. Call 01325-244659, or visit darlingtonoperaticsociety.org.uk
