A YOUNG woman is hoping to represent the north of England on the Young Labour National Committee.
Sammie Weller, 19, is hoping that members of the Young Labour party will vote for her when they receive their ballot papers in the next couple of weeks.
Miss Weller, of Pateley Moor Crescent, in Darlington, said that if successful, she will use her position to get more young people interested in politics.
She said: "Sometimes young people are painted in a bad light - you just have to look at the student demonstrations in London the other week.
"I want to represent the North of England and bring politics to young people.
"I helped Jenny Chapman on her campaign to become MP for Darlington.
"She is my main influence.
I am heading off to study law next year but would love to become an MP one day.
"Jenny has also said that she will support my campaign, so that will be an enormous help.
"I just hope I win, all I want to do is represent the young people in this area. I'll try to organise more events to get people together and let them have their say."
If successful, the former Darlington Young Citizen of the Year will join the committee at the party's National Conference next month
