CUT-PRICE composters are being offered to Darlington residents.
The compost bins are used to process organic waste - which accounts for 30 per cent of total household waste - including leaves, dead flowers, grass-cuttings, and raw fruit and vegetables.
Stephen Harker, Darlington Council's cabinet member for consumer and environmental services, said: " Composting is another way for residents to make a significant impact on the amount of landfill we produce."
A similar offer last year saw almost 20,000 residents get their own composters.
The bins come in three sizes and range in price from £4 to £20.
There is a limit of three bins per household.
