A VICTORIAN time machine materialised on the streets of Darlington on Satureday.
Street artists Karen Bell and Dave Bullock posed as time travellers from 1888 to get visitors in the mood for Darlington Borough Council's summer street art programme.
The pair, who set up performing and teaching company Bell and Bullock 16 years ago, entertained the crowds during the day. They also demonstrate circus skills and teach workshops.
Ms Bell said: "The response has been very good - some of the kids really got into it and started thinking of things we could invent or where we could go in time - it's really nice."
The performances were the first in a series of events on Saturdays through the summer, with additional performers on Thursdays and Fridays during the school holidays.
As well as visiting performers and artists, the council is encouraging local people to demonstrate their talents.
Anyone who has musical, theatre or mime skills, or other talents suited to the street art programme, can contact Kevin Edwards, arts development officer on (01325) 348849, or Marion Bynoe, events development officer on (01325) 388151 to arrange to showcase their act in the town.
