A VILLAGE hall could be revamped in a £15,000 project.

Plans have been drawn up to give Heighington Village Hall a new car park and fit the building with a state of the art security system.

The car park to the rear of the hall is to be levelled and resurfaced and a new disabled access ramp, stone walls and fencing and gates fitted.

Inside, a door entry system will be installed, featuring two remote telephones with fitted CCTV monitors.

Callers to the hall will ring a bell, and will be buzzed in by people inside who can check to see who is calling before letting them in.

The monitors will be fitted in the main hall and the first floor office.

Listed building consent is needed to fit the new kit because the hall is protected by Grade II status. The plans also need to be approved by Darlington Borough Councils conservation officer.

A statement submitted with the planning application said: This is a scheme which the residents of Heighington have eagerly waited for and it will greatly enhance the use of the village hall by the local community.

The application will be considered by the councils planning department in the coming months. The plans are available to view at the town hall.
