A SCHOOL is expected to be given permission to build its first bicycle shelters as part of a five-year travel plan to increase cycling among pupils.
Heighington Church of England Primary School has applied to build a shelter for 20 bicycles within the grounds.
The application, for the metal shelter, will be heard by Darlington Borough Council's planning committee next Wednesday, January 13.
Planning officers have recommended that the application should be approved.
The plans said that the school has no provision on the site to cycle storage.
As a result, the application would help to increase cycling among its pupils as part of its travel plan, covering the period from 2006 to 2011.
No objections, from residents and three consulted bodies, have been raised to the application.
Wednesdays meeting starts at 1.30pm in the town hall.
