DARLINGTON school children continue to perform well in terms of absence, a report has revealed.
Primary and secondary school absence rates are below national and regional averages.
Primary schools had a 5.2 per cent rate of absence for the school year 2008/09, compared to the regional and national average of 5.26 per cent.
Secondary schools had a 6.48 per cent absence rate, compared to 7.3 per cent in the North-East and 7.34 per cent nationally.
Darlington Borough Council issued 69 penalty notices for either holdiays in term time or unauthorised absence, while there were 97 fast track prosecutions, and 15 cases reached court.
The figures were released in the agenda of the council's children and young people scrutiny committee, which meets on Monday November 9.
