CAMPAIGNERS who want to save a riverside path from closure are organising a mass walk to promote their cause.
Hurworth residents and the parish council are urging villagers to back their campaign to make a footpath running through Croft Workingmen's Club a designated right of way.
The path, between Croft Bridge and Blind Lane, is threatened with closure and a campaign body claims the path has been fenced off with gates and barbed wire.
Simon Sobrero, a resident of Hurworth Place and spokesman for the campaign, is organising a mass walk to promote the cause and urge people to keep the path open.
He wants people to take part in the event to exercise their right to walk on the route.
Mr Sobrero said the group had substantial evidence to say the path has been in use since 1924.
The walk will take place on Sunday, November 1, at 2pm. Walkers should meet at Rockliffe Surgery, at Rockliffe Court, Hurworth Place.
