A PROPOSED barn conversion is being recommended for approval despite opposition from neighbouring residents and a parish council.

An application to convert a barn and stables into a home and build three replacement stables at Cobby Castle Equestrian Centre, Bishopton, will be heard by council planners on Wednesday, October 21.

Officers have recommended that the committee approves the plans because the applicants had satisfied them that the building could be erected in a countryside location.

The two-storey home, on the site of current stables, would include a kitchen-dining area, living room, playroom and three bedrooms.

The five stables would be replaced with two in a barn, and three in a new building.

Seven letters have been sent to the planning department to object to the plans. Reasons include there is no need for another livery in the area, that the home should only be one storey high and the application could lead to future development.

Bishopton Parish Council has also objected to the plans for a number of reasons, echoing the concerns of residents.

The planning meeting, which is open to the public, takes place on Wednesday at 1.30pm in the town hall committee rooms.
