FISHERMEN will honour a community champion at a competition next weekend.
Anglers will compete for the Bill Cook Memorial Trophy at Maidendale Nature and Fishing Reserve Trusts event next Saturday.
The champions match takes place at the nature reserve on Saturday, October 24, from 10am to 1pm.
The top three places from this season's competitions will all complete for the trophy, which was presented by ward councillor Lee Vasey.
The competition is for rod and reel only.
Mr Cook died last month, aged 78, after a battle with cancer.
Following his death, community leaders paid tribute to the work that Mr Cook performed on the Firthmoor estate in Darlington, where he lived for 40 years.
He was made an MBE in 2005 for services to his community.
His grandson, David Cook, has also started a campaign to have the Firthmoor Community Centre named after Mr Cook.
