AN ADVISOR to the Government will visit the region this week to raise awareness among schools about the plight of asylum seekers.
Sir Keith Ajegbo, a former headmaster turned advisor to the Home Office, will address representatives from schools across the North-East at a conference held in Darlington on Thursday.
Carmel RC College in the town will host the Refugee Action Project Teesside (RAPT) conference.
The conference will also include workshops, advice and guidance.
PACT aims to raise awareness among young people of the causes and consequences of individuals becoming refugees.
Six schools have been involved in the RAPT project in 2009.
Representatives from Carmel RC College, Egglescliffe School, Redcar Community College and St Hild's CE School in Hartlepool will all be showcasing work produced in their schools, and discussing the impact that it has made.
