A CHARITY has recruited a new chief executive officer for when its previous incumbent retires.
Gillian Peel has joined staff and volunteers of Age Concern in Darlington as the new chief executive.
She will take over from Geoffrey Crute, who retires on July 31, after seven years with the charity.
Ms Peel said: "It is very exciting to take over such an amazing and vibrant organisation which offers such a wide range of services to people over 50 years old in Darlington."
She has recently worked for the National Mencap College, in Dilston, Northumberland. Before that she ran a charity in Cumbria.
Age Concern runs a number of services including day care, home bathing, insurance sales. Its main office is in Beaumont Street but it runs information and advice from one of its offices in Clarks Yard.
Ms Peel added: "I think the cafe is the best kept secret in Darlington, the food is very good and is served by some of our many volunteers."
