COLIN TODD today begins his Darlington tenure in earnest and he will start by attempting to secure the services of Dean Windass.
Although Windass informed Todd at the beginning of the month that he would swap Hull City for Quakers, the 40-year-old forward is wanted elsewhere.
But Todd will meet Windass today and expects him to turn down a player/coach offer from Port Vale to take up the same position with Darlington.
The calibre of players Todd has lined up for Quakers are believed to have been a key factor in the veteran striker’s decision.
Meanwhile, Darlington are hoping to line-up a friendly with another local side after next month’s fixture with Leeds was cancelled due to the sides being paired in the Carling Cup.
The cup tie takes place at the Arena in the week beginning August 10.
With Leeds certain to bring a large travelling contingent, the game will provide a timely cash boost to a Quakers outfit that should have exited administration by the time the game takes place.
Hartlepool United have an equally stiff task, as they travel to Championship side Coventry City in the first round.
