DEBTS of more than £330,000 could be written-off by a council tomorrow.
Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet will vote on whether to write-off £184,878.10 in unpaid business rates and £133,313.59 in unpaid council tax, along with other debts of £14,361.51.
Officers have recommended the debts, totalling £332,553.20, should be written off as it is considered all practical steps have been taken to recover them.
The write-off will allow the council to maintain its accounts in line with the financial rules for local authorities.
The report said council had successfully collected 96.8 per cent of council tax due in the 2008/2009 financial year.
Councillors will decide whether to allow the write-off at their 5pm meeting, in Darlington Town Hall tomorrow. The meeting is open to members of the public.
