DEMENTIA patients and their carers are being asked for their views for a new strategy in Darlington.
Following the Department of Health's publication of the first National Dementia strategy, people in Darlington are being asked for their recommendations.
The strategy focuses on an increase in dementia cases, work to increase the publics understanding, services to assist in early diagnoses and support for people living with those who have dementia.
NHS Joint Commissioner for Mental Health, Sue Dixon said: "The recommendations in the Living Well with Dementia Strategy are ambitious and there is much to do.
"We will be working together with our partners to review and improve the quality of services provided for people living with dementia to support carers and to promote a greater understanding of the causes and consequences of dementia.
"Change won't happen overnight but we are currently considering developing a range of new exciting initiatives, including the introduction of dementia advisors who would provide local people with a single point of contact with knowledge of and direct access to a whole range of services.
"We are keen to hear the views of people living with dementia and their carers, which are vital if we are to provide services which meet the needs of people in Darlington."
A public event takes place at Darlington Football Club on Thursday, June 4, from 10am to 2.30pm. For more details or to contribute, contact 01325-746234 or email cd-pct.livingwellwithdementia@nhs.net.
