A SCHOOL which was being forced to teach in entrance areas and corridors is set to be given permission for a temporary classroom.
Abbey Junior School, in Abbey Road, Darlington, has applied to build a classroom on playing fields to the south of the main school building.
A report, to be put before next week's council planning committee, said: "The school has identified a need for an additional classroom as at the present time unsuitable areas are being used for teaching such as entrance areas and corridors."
No objections have been raised to the plans from local residents or other statutory bodies. Sport England has yet to comment at the time the planning report was written.
Planning officers have recommended that the classroom be given permission to be built subject to no objection coming from Sport England.
The report added: "Overall it is considered that the development is appropriate in this location.
The proposed extension will meet an identified need to provide additional teaching accommodation within the school."
