BEST-SELLING author Freya North will give an open air reading of her latest novel in Darlington tomorrow.

It will be Mrs North's first open air event in the region.

She will read from her tenth novel, Secrets, which is set in the North-East.

The park in West Park, the first to be built in Darlington for over 100 years, will host the reading, which begins at 10.30am.

The event is part of Darlington Borough Council's perfectly placed campaign, which aims to demonstrate the range of activities on offer in the town's many parks and green spaces.

Andy Scott, the council's cabinet member for health and leisure, said: "We hope as many people as possible follow Freya's lead and get out there and read a book, or perhaps even find the inspiration to write a book in one of Darlington's many parks."

Mrs North said: "I love the North-East of England.

"It's a region where I love to spend time. It's given me a lot of inspiration for my work and provided the setting for my latest novel, Secrets.

"I think what they're doing in Darlington is a great idea.

"Parks are places which people can enjoy all year round. They're wonderful places to relax and read a book."
