DARLINGTON’S Jason Kennedy was the star of the show during Saturday’s televised 2-0 win with another stunning goal.

His sixth strike of the season was a long-range, dipping volley that put Quakers ahead at Rochdale – the same opponents when he netted memorably in last season’s play-offs.

That was a curling 16-yard effort after bringing down the ball with a sublime touch – a strike that won the North- East goal of the season.

Saturday’s is a contender for the 2009 awards, but the former Middlesbrough midfielder is not sure which was better.

“As soon as I took a touch I knew I was going to hit it,”

said Kennedy, who is the only Darlington player to feature in every game this season.

“It’s tough to say which one is better. I’ve not seen this one on television yet but the lads are saying this one is better.

“I got North-East goal of the season so hopefully I’ll get it again. I set myself a target of ten goals which hasn’t quite happened, I always want a chance in each game. But that’s three goals in my last four games now.”

Kennedy was quick to praise his team-mates who have seen promotion hopes dashed by the club going into administration.

He added: “It’s nice to get personal awards but it’s a team game and the lads have been fantastic since we’ve been in administration, you can see the character of the players.

“We’re hoping the club will get bought, but if all else fails you’re trying to sell yourself as a player.”
