PUBLIC opinion about possible changes to parking enforcement in Darlington will be put before councillors in June.

Darlington Borough Council has launched a public consultation about changes to parking regulations.

Parking enforcement is expected to switch from police to council officers later this year.

The councils cabinet agreed earlier this year to run a feasibility study into the change.

A talking together meeting is planned for later this month and an online forum has been launched on the council's website.

Public feedback will be given to the cabinet in July before a final decision is made.

Councillor David Lyonette, cabinet member for transport, said: "In my view, it is more probable it will happen than possible."

Among the consultation points, council officers have asked about general concerns on parking, locations of dangerous parking including schools and problems with business deliveries.

Council officers are also considering where money from fines will be spent.
