YOUNG people are to be helped to a healthier life thanks to the success of a pilot project in Darlington.
Public Health County Durham and Darlington is looking for volunteers to take part in Junior One Life, a 12-week programme which aims to tackle the growing problem of childhood obesity.
The scheme, piloted last year, adopts a whole-lifestyle approach to the issue covering topics such as healthy eating, cooking skills, meal planning, cooking on a budget, tasting sessions and weekly fun activity sessions.
Starting in January, the programme works with children aged eight to 11-years-old and their parents.
Health improvement lead for obesity Ruth Bennett, working on behalf of NHS County Durham and NHS Darlington, said: "The Junior One Life programme is a great chance to increase fitness, learn new skills, boost self esteem and have some fun.
"It gives children and parents the opportunity to learn together in an open and friendly environment."
The scheme is completely free and finishes with a celebration and graduation ceremony attended by children and their families.
Programmes will be run at Darlington Education Village. Anybody who is interested should contact Rachel Osbaldeston on 01325-746124 for further information.
