THE town's new youth MP has been elected after campaigning for better mental health programmes and a 10am start to the school day.

Young people in Darlington have been voting for their own youth MP, who will lead the Darlington Youth Partnership and work with elected officials in the town.

Elliot Cook, 14, won the election with about 40 per cent of the vote, while Rowan Edwards will be his deputy.

The Hummersknott Academy pupil had campaigned for a student discount card to help save money on leisure activities, helping to support mental health programmes for young people and a 10am to the school day which will help to reduce pressure on students and improve grades.
