A PANTO is hitting the stage mid-year, proving that pantomimes are not just for Christmas.
The Majestic Theatre in Darlington, a multi-use arts space established to fill the role of the arts centre after its closure in 2012, are inviting audiences to see Repunzel in an Easter panto.
Teaming up with Pumpkin Pantos to produce the show, theatre goers will follow the story of the princess with magical golden hair who is captured by an evil sorceress named Gothel.
Gothel hopes to gain eternal beauty and, in a comedic twist on the classic story, it’s up to Fairy Fabulous, Strider and Dolly Dumpling to free Rapunzel from the confines of Gothel's tower.
The production promises all traditional panto ingredients including sensational songs, colourful costumes, and a "laugh-a-minute script".
While Disney's version of Rapunzel, in film Tangled, has a pet Gecko, this panto is complete with a ten foot high dragon.
Venue The Majestic Theatre also hosts an amateur dramatics group, Bondgate Players, which puts on a performance once a year, and has a film school, Act 2 Cam, for young people.
Rapunzel performances will take place at The Majestic Theatre on April 11 and 12.
