ORGANISERS of Darlington's first-ever Wool Fair have hailed it a success, drawing visitors from across the region.
Specialist traders from across the UK filled the market hall with textile creations ranging from knitwear and accessories to spinning wheels and looms.
Visitors could enjoy learning new skills such as spinning and weaving as well as the chance to create tapestry rugs using natural fleeces to showcase the textures and colours of various sheep breeds.
Event manager, Alex Nicholson said: “We are really pleased with the response received from traders and shoppers alike for putting on this new event.
"It is fantastic to offer people from creative industries a platform to showcase and sell their designs.”
Hayden Ferriby, director of Market Asset Management which runs Darlington Market, said events such as the wool fair could help keep the market fresh: “Reviving, and growing markets is a fundamental aim of our business," he said.
"Offering new and exciting market events offers both new and existing customers a wonderful experience and yet another reason to come and enjoy our market halls. We are always looking to develop and try new ideas for our visitors.”Darlington for Culture and the council also supported the event.
