CAFE SPICE, located in the heart of Darlington in Clarks Yard, has been honoured once more at an industry awards ceremony.

The restaurant opened in June 2008 and has since won a total of four Bangladesh Caterers Association (BCA) awards.

It has now been named the BCA’s best Indian restaurant in the North-East for 2019.

The restaurant offers a range of homemade Indian dishes from chef and owner Brian Miah, who said that he was “very happy” to have received the award.

He said he prides himself on the “look of the restaurant” and would “definitely” be going for the award again next year.

Cafe Spice has a heavy social media presence and holds many competitions and events for charity, such as the recent charity night for St Teresa’s Hospice.

Mr Miah is not a stranger to awards. In 2017 he won BCA for chef of the year. He added: “The restaurant won awards in 2014 and 2016 and this just adds to our success.”

The restaurant has also seen a few famous faces in its time, being opened by then-MP Alan Milburn in 2008, as well as receiving two visits from former Top Gear presenter James May.

The Bangladesh Caterers Association was founded in 1960 and is an umbrella organisation for 12,000 British-Bangladeshi restaurants across the UK. The BCA aim to represent the views of the Bangladeshi curry industry as well as making sure that the industry has a voice.
