A CARE home will be opening its doors to the public in a day of afternoon tea and entertainment.

North Park care home on L’Anson Street, in Darlington, will welcome in the community for a day of tours and refreshments.

Taking place from 10am to 4pm, the open day aims to let members of the public see inside the care home and learn more about its facilities and the services the care home provides.

For refreshments, guests will be able to enjoy home-made cream cakes, prepared by North Park’s head chef.

Guests will also be able to meet staff at the home and have a tour of the building.

Amanda Woolford, general manager at North Park, said: “I’m excited about welcoming new visitors and existing friends of the home to our open day.

“Looking for care can be a little bit daunting, but our team here at North Park will do all we can to provide all of our guests with the guidance and support they may need, and answer all of their questions, big or small.

“Our open day is a great chance to enjoy some delightful entertainment in a homely and friendly setting - we hope to see you all there.”

The home, owned by Barchester Healthcare, was opened in 2004 and provides residential and dementia care for 60 residents through respite to long term stays.

In 2018, North Park was given an overall performance score of 995 out of 1,000 in the Your Care Rating - the country’s largest survey of care home residents.

The care home offers several care services for resident's personalised needs.

People living with dementia are cared for in a dedicated ‘Memory Lane Community’, which is specially adapted to support those living with the condition, using careful design and colours.

Designed by David Thornton, the caretaker at North Park when the unit opened, The Memory Lane uses reminiscence aids, memory boxes and a life skills kitchen to help keep residents keep active and engaged.

The home also holds regular assessments and reviews with residents, involving both the individual and their family.
