CHILDREN at a Darlington school showed you can judge a book by its cover when they got creative with a colourful art competition.
To celebrate Book Week, pupils at Skerne Park Primary School recreated their favourite book covers for an art competition.
Each class made a cover, which was displayed on their classroom door.
Ruth Bernstien, who is one of the school govenors, had the task of choosing a winner, but pronounced one of her favourites as The Owl Babies, which was created by years one and two.
Other covers included Funny Bones, Charlotte's Web and Crummy Mummy.
The school also had a record amount of book sales from its book fair, taking more than £300 in the first few days.
Headteacher Diana Teasdale said: "We are particularly delighted that so many parents have come in to buy books from the book fair.
"The message is getting home that reading is so important.
"Making the book covers has really grabbed the imagination of the children. We hope it will help to stimulate their interest in books."
