Goals from Steve Foster, Gregg Blundell and Tommy Wright handed Darlington their first win in four games at Dagenham and Redbridge.
Foster and Blundell were both part of the Doncaster Rovers team which beat the Daggers in the Nationwide Conference play-off final in 2003 and they again proved to be Daggers' nemesis as Quakers won the first-ever meeting between these sides.
Foster's strike in first-half injury time, followed by Blundell's after the break gave Darlington a healthy two-goal advantage before Wright sealed the game with seven minutes to go.
Darlington had stuck with the same side that drew at home to Rochdale in midweek, a result which was Quakers' third game without a win and saw them drop from second to fifth in League Two.
So Darlington needed a victory to prevent losing all the momentum they had gathered in such a good start to the season, but it was Dagenham who started the better side.
Although direct shots on goal were rare, the Essex side saw more of the ball and won seven corners to Quakers' one in the opening 45 minutes.
But the closest Daggers came to goal was Chris Moore's free-kick which skimmed the roof of Andy Oakes' net and as the half wore on Darlington became more of a force and took the lead in injury time through Foster's first for the club.
He volleyed home in spectacular fashion inside the Dagenham six yard box after Clark Keltie's free-kick floated across the head of Alan White to Foster at the far post to make it 1-0.
And almost immediately after the break Foster came so close to scoring again, this time his powerful low shot after a corner was only partially cleared was cleared by a defender off the line, and Blundell was denied in similar fashion.
They were the best of several Darlington chances within the first 15 minutes of the second half and, having thrown away leads in the closing stages of three games already this season, Quakers fans will have been concerned the same could happen again.
But midway through the second half Quakers finally made their second half dominance pay with Blundell make it 2-0 after rampaging run up the right by Julian Joachim.
Seconds after Oakes made a great save to deny Dagenham's Sam Saunders, the former Aston Villa forward used his electric pace to race up the right and cross to the penalty spot where Blundell fired home to put Darlington in a strong position.
And the game was as good as over in the 83rd minute when Micky Cummins sent Wright away one-on-one with the keeper and the striker kept his cool to scored his fifth league goal of the season and make it 3-0.
