A 16-YEAR-OLD Royal Navy recruit from Darlington has earned his stripes after completing training.
Christopher Railton, a former Eastbourne Academy pupil, started his career in the forces in July, and has now completed an eight-week training course at HMS Raleigh in Cornwall.
The course is designed to teach recruits the skills they will need during their time in the Navy, and culminates with a passing-out-parade before families and friends.
The trainee warfare specialist said: "I joined the Royal Navy because I wanted to see the world and do something different.
"Training has been great fun. It is something I never thought I would do. My biggest achievements are being able to handle a weapon safely and gaining a NVQ level one in first aid."
Christopher has moved to HMS Collingwood in Hampshire for more specialist training, where he will learn to gather and interpret information about a ship's surroundings as well as operating the weapons and defensive systems. Once fully qualified he will be ready to take his place at sea.
