HAVING won at the weekend, York City head to Darlington today hoping to record back-to-back wins for the first time since January.

The Minstermen beat Brackley on Saturday 2-1, which was also the scoreline when they won at Blackwell Meadows in January, a day that saw Martin Gray return as York boss.

He may have since left, with former Hartlepool United defender Sam Collins now manager, but there remains three former Quakers in the squad: Adam Bartlett, David Ferguson and Joe Tait.

Ferguson is expecting a tough afternoon if he is up against former team-mate Stephen Thompson.

“Thommo – the right winger – will be a threat all game so, if I am playing, I know I’ll have a game on my hands,” said Ferguson.

“He’s a toughie and he will graft and that’s what Darlington are about under Tommy Wright. He gets them working all the time and giving 100 per cent all over the pitch.”

Thompson, however, was a substitute on Saturday when Darlington drew 3-3 at Altrincham, the first time he has come off the bench since September 2017.

Ferguson was in the York team that played at Blackwell at the beginning of this year, when Reece Styche put Quakers ahead before goals by Sean Newton and Jon Parkin secured an away win.

He added: “When I was there, I thought I was well liked and, when I went back last season, I got a decent reception.

“I wasn’t expecting that, but that’s what I got so, hopefully, I will do again.

“I will just be going there to concentrate on the game but, if the fans clap me, I will clap them back.”
