LEEK growers gathered in Darlington yesterday for the 60th anniversary of their show.
The Darlington Inter-Club Leek Show attracted 120 leeks from nearly 60 members as the four clubs of Darlington battled it out for supremacy.
The event, at Darlington Workingmen's Club, saw Harrowgate Hill club crowned best long leek and the East End club take the pot leek prize.
Organiser Colin Mackenzie said: "It was spot on. There were no records broken, but the competition was very good.
"It's fun because it's the only time of the year we get to see each other. It's always nice to win, but it's just a bit of fun."
This year's show was sponsored by Glenwood Paints, B and G Mini Markets and Carlbury garden centre.
Next year, organisers hope to attract more entries from around the region.
Full results will appear in The Northern Echo tomorrow.
