THE memorial service of a hospital worker who died from cancer has taken place.
Liz Metcalfe, who worked at Darlington Memorial Hospital for more than 20 years, died in July, aged 57. Her last role was as medical secretary.
More than 90 friends and family members attended the Mary Hodgkin Memorial Chapel at the hospital on Thursday.
Mrs Metcalfe's friend, Kath Fawcett, said: "The eulogy by Dr Trewby really summed up her life. She was just a down-to-earth, salt-of-the-earth person who always had time for everybody.
"She raised funds for the hemotology unit, leukaemia, and the homeless."
Mrs Metcalfe left two adult children and a husband, Charlie. She lived in The Stray, off Yarm Road.
